Addressing Canada's Healthcare Challenges with MAP

Canada’s healthcare system faces critical challenges that impact both healthcare providers and patients. At MAP, we are committed to addressing these issues by optimizing workflows, reducing administrative burdens, and enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring that clinicians can focus on delivering exceptional patient care.

Canada ranks 28th out of 30 countries for the relative availability of doctors and 25th for hospital bed capacity, highlighting significant gaps in healthcare accessibility. In 2021, 14.4% of Canadians (approximately 4.7 million people) lacked a regular healthcare provider, limiting their access to timely care.

The demand for healthcare services continues to outpace the supply of healthcare professionals, leading to increased wait times and limited access to care. Job vacancies for personal support workers, registered nurses, and psychiatric nurses accounted for two-thirds of all healthcare job vacancies in 2022–2023, placing further strain on an already overwhelmed system.

Administrative tasks significantly contribute to physician burnout in Canada. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) reports that physicians spend approximately 18.5 million hours annually on unnecessary administrative work, with 60% saying this burden has increased over the past five years. Additionally, 75% of physicians believe these tasks negatively impact job satisfaction, and 60% attribute them to deteriorating mental health.

Dentists face unique stressors that contribute to burnout, with studies showing that burnout syndrome affected 22.2%–55% of dental professionals in 2019, up from 26% in 2014. This rise is largely due to the demands of managing a practice alongside providing patient care. Unlike other healthcare professionals, many dentists take on significant financial risk to own and operate their clinics, making business management a major source of stress. Finding locums to maintain operations during leave can be challenging, often preventing dentists from prioritizing their mental health. Creating an accessible pool of locums would be a valuable support system.

As healthcare job vacancies have doubled since the pandemic to over 120,140 open positions in 2022–2023, the need for streamlined operations and administrative relief has never been greater. Reducing inefficiencies allows healthcare providers to focus on patient care, improve work-life balance, and enhance healthcare outcomes.
